Passion For Pastry

Born and raised on Maui, Hawaii, Tiffany MacIsaac moved to New York City at the age of 18. Her love affair with food began almost immediately. She attended the culinary arts program at the Institute of Culinary Education and went on to work as a pastry assistant at Union Square Café and Ilo Restaurant in the Bryant Park Hotel. She was later awarded the title of pastry chef at Michelin star restaurants CRU followed by another Michelin starred property, Allen and Delancey.

In 2009, Tiffany and her husband, Chef Kyle Bailey, moved to DC to open Birch & Barley, which not only received 3 stars from The Washington Post but also gave her the platform to be awarded the honor of Best Pastry Chef by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington in 2010. During her 5 years with the Neighborhood Restaurant Group, she ran the pastry program for 14 properties including Buzz Bakery and GBD Fried Chicken and Doughnuts. Tiffany was also selected as a James Beard Award semi-finalist 3 years in a row and was featured in several publications such as Food & Wine, The Local Palate, and Art Culinaire.

Alexandra Mudry-Till is a native New Yorker and, after graduating from the prestigious Culinary Institute of America, spent several years in New York cooking at top shops such as Bouley Bakery, Bedford Post and later Mercato where she first stepped into the role of pastry chef.  She specializes in beautiful, hand made pieces of edible art.  From incredibly realistic fondant flowers to cakes covered in the most delicate sugar ruffles you can image, Alex makes wedding cake dreams come true.

Alexandra was a featured guest on Ace of Cakes as the winner of American Cancer Society’s Taste More Birthdays Campaign.  After moving to DC in 2010 she accepted a position as pastry sous chef at Buzz Bakery. From there she graduated to the position of lead decorator and from there helped grow the wedding cake and celebration cake program at the bakery.

At Buttercream Bakeshop, Alex will continue to offer her brides top notch customer service and create wedding cakes and dessert tables that complete their wedding vision.

Born in southern California, Emma moved all over the country with her Air Force family. After graduating Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in theater, she moved to D.C. in 2012. She served in various restaurants and bars around the city including two years at the Michelin starred restaurant, The Dabney. In 2014, looking to branch out, she started her own snack company that made and distributed delicious, gourmet cheese crackers.

While that wasn't successful in the end her shared love of food and desire to broaden her experience within the hospitality industry brought her to Buttercream! She started as a barista and from there worked her way to management and eventually became our general manager. At Buttercream Bakeshop, she takes her extensive customer service background and applies it to create a warm, welcoming environment where there is always some one to chat with and something delicious to eat!

At Buttercream Bakeshop we love what we do and have a lot of fun doing it. It helps that we happen to think we have the best job in the world. Our main goal is making people happier one slice of cake or pie or cookie at a time. It doesn’t get much better than that!

But don’t let our on-the-job-fun fool you. Our playful menu and whimsical ways are deeply rooted in years of training, commitment to the process, and the desire to make sure that everything you taste is as fresh and delicious as it can be. We scratch-bake everything in the shop and every single order, every day from the finest ingredients available. We work with local farms and markets to procure the best produce, when possible.

Our recipes have been developed over the years and combine childhood favorites with updated techniques and flavors. We want each bite to transport you to a fond memory and bring a smile to your face. New recipes and ideas are tested for months to make sure they are ready for debut and just as they should be. And we take no greater pleasure than being a part of your daily routine or special occasion.
